At its June 6, 2011 meeting, the New Jersey Real Estate Commission (REC) adopted the rules that will be used to implement continuing education (CE) requirements for real estate licensees in New Jersey. NJAR® previously submitted comments to the REC covering several areas relating to the original rule proposal. Among the areas that NJAR® commented on, which the REC considered and made changes to in the final version of the rule adoption notice, include ensuring that all course providers have to go through the same approval process and seeking clarification to ensure that if an approved course provider changes the location where their courses are being offered, that they will not have to pay an additional fee to change the location of the course. Please note that the adoption notice contains the amendments to the original rule proposal that have been approved by the REC. The adopted rule, which took effect on July 18, 2011 and remains in effect through August of 2016, requires that 12 hours of CE will have to be completed as a condition of relicensure prior to the next relicensing date in July of 2013. The rule also contains information on the courses, providers and instructors that will be applicable to CE.
