NEW JERSEY
REALTORS® PROMOTE IMPORTANCE OF
HOMEOWNERSHIP
EDISON, N.J. - The American
dream of homeownership is something people
across the country strive to attain, however
is not always achievable for everyone,
especially in New Jersey where the average
price of an existing single-family home is
approximately $380,000. Throughout the month
of June, the New Jersey Association of
REALTORS® (NJAR®) will help promote National
Homeownership Month, along with REALTORS®
from across the country, to help make this
dream a reality for more people in the
Garden State.
"As REALTORS® we help people find homes
everyday, but there are still thousands who
struggle to find a safe, affordable place to
live," said NJAR® President Bill Hanley.
"Housing is a necessity and must be
available for everyone. This is why each
year we use National Homeownership Month as
a platform to call attention to housing
issues in New Jersey and the need to help
more people obtain homeownership in our
state."
NJAR® members take an active role
promoting homeownership opportunities by
supporting programs and providing resources
that help increase safe and affordable
housing options for more New Jersey
residents. Through its work with Homes for
New Jersey, a nonpartisan coalition, NJAR®
helps to promote the production,
rehabilitation and preservation of homes in
environmentally appropriate places. Together
the coalition and REALTORS® work with
lawmakers to improve public policies and
encourage more efficient use of existing
resources to provide more homes affordable
to families and first-time buyers.
Through the New Jersey Association of
REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation,
Inc., (NJARHOF), a NJAR® Housing Opportunity
Resource Guide is available to help home
buyers identify different housing programs
in New Jersey. The guide is available at no
cost and lists contact information for
federal, state and local housing assistance
programs. NJARHOF is a nonprofit
organization that provides funding to
organizations throughout the state that
offer home buyer education, develop public
awareness and create affordable
homeownership options. Everyone is
encouraged to take a part in Homeownership
Month by making a contribution to the
foundation. More information about NJARHOF
and how to make donations may be found at
http://www.njar.com/njarhof.shtml.
"Today, there are many young people who
were raised in New Jersey, and workers who
support our communities who cannot afford to
buy a home in our state," added Hanley.
"Housing is the foundation of our
neighborhoods and the strength of our
communities therefore it's essential that
the opportunity for homeownership is
available for everyone. National
Homeownership Month is a great way to draw
attention to the importance of providing
more people with this opportunity."
