REALTORS® Speak Out Against Asbury
Park's Parking Plan
(Edison, NJ) Reacting to Asbury Park's
proposal to increase parking fees and impose
parking permits for permanent and seasonal
residents, New Jersey Association of
REALTORS® (NJAR®)
Executive Vice President Jarrod C. Grasso,
RCE issued the following statement:
"Asbury Park's revitalization work is
beginning to payoff and shows a promising
comeback for the city. Imposing this
parking proposal will delay its efforts to
reestablish itself as a leading vacation
destination. It's inexplicable as to why a
town that is desperately trying to attract
new businesses and tourists would pursue a
proposal that makes it more expensive for
families to visit there. Rather, during
this difficult economic climate, municipal
officials should be looking to attract
visitors by positioning Asbury Park as an
affordable vacation alternative."
"While NJAR®
understands that municipalities across New
Jersey are facing difficult budgetary
circumstances, increasing parking fees and
imposing a permit system for permanent and
seasonal residents sends the wrong message.
Instead of pursuing this ill-advised parking
ordinance, local officials should enact
policies aimed at boosting the real estate
and tourism industries, which will generate
income for local businesses and in turn
create more revenue for the city itself."
