REALTORS® Offer Tips on the Jersey Shore Rental Market
(Edison, NJ) As summer approaches and
vacationers begin thinking about getaway
plans with friends and loved ones, consider
a summer rental to enjoy the beaches,
boardwalks, and other treasures of the
Jersey Shore. The expert members of the New
Jersey Association of REALTORS® (NJAR®) have
some valuable advice to share with those
considering renting a property at the Shore
this coming season.
"Affordability is key right now," said NJAR®
President-Elect Judy Appleby, ABR, RSPS,
SRES, of Appleby Realty in Seaside Park,
N.J. "Rental costs remain steady, making the
Jersey Shore a viable option for an
affordable vacation close to home."
Appleby adds that even in late spring, many
interested consumers think it is too late to
obtain a rental unit. Although the spring
buying season has begun and activity in this
market is increasing, there are properties
still available in many Shore communities.
NJAR® First Vice President Allan H. "Dutch"
Dechert, RSPS, of Ferguson Dechert, Inc. in
Avalon, N.J. and former Chair of the
National Association of REALTORS® (NAR)
Resort and Second-home Real Estate
Committee, suggests that consumers will be
successful if they are flexible. "Providing
your REALTOR® with options for your desired
vacation timeframe and amenities will open
up doors to more available properties that
accommodate some or all of those
preferences."
The Resort and Second-home Real Estate
Committee oversees NAR's Resort and
Second-home Property Specialist (RSPS)
certification, an education program designed
specifically for REALTORS® specializing in
vacation property transactions.
When pursuing the rental process it is
important to consult with an expert.
Consider meeting with one of the numerous
members of the New Jersey Association of
REALTORS® to lend their guidance and aid in
negotiating price to help make this an
affordable and memorable vacation season.
Both Dechert and Appleby recommend visiting
the desired area prior to reaching an
agreement. Consider a day trip to the
desired location to get a sense of the
rental unit's condition, surroundings,
proximity to the beach, and any other
factors that may be important for a summer
getaway.
Renting property along the Jersey Shore
offers tremendous opportunity for all
involved. According to Appleby, "Consumers
can enjoy the amenities of the Garden State
and support the local economy at the same
time. Local businesses thrive and residents,
as well as out-of-state vacationers, get a
top-notch experience."
Another upside to summer rental properties
is that they allow New Jerseyans to save
what would be spent on long-distance airfare
and out-of-state accommodations. Dechert
added, "We are seeing families who normally
vacation in Florida and along the southern
coast enjoying the same benefits at a
destination closer to home.
Whether considering a vacation getaway to
last throughout the summer or a place to
stay for an extended weekend, seasonal
rentals can serve as a "home away from home"
to build lifelong memories.
This summer, invest in New Jersey. The
Jersey Shore rental market is ripe with
opportunity. Contact a REALTOR® to jumpstart
the process, answer questions about the
desired community, and show available units
in the area.
