NJAR® RELEASES STATEMENT REGARDING
GOVERNOR CORZINE'S FY 2009 BUDGET PROPOSAL
(Edison, NJ)- Reacting to Governor Jon Corzine's budget address to the New Jersey Legislature, the New Jersey Association of REALTORS® (NJAR®) Executive Vice President Jarrod C. Grasso, RCE today issued the following statement:
"Today, Governor Corzine delivered an extremely sobering budget proposal. While we recognize there is no silver bullet to fix New Jersey's crumbling fiscal foundation, we are pleased the Governor did not seek to balance the budget by introducing a spending plan that raises taxes on the real estate industry or property owners. NJAR® will continue to closely monitor budget negotiations as we understand that Governor Corzine and the Legislature will have to make some very difficult decisions as they move forward with the process."
"In his budget address, Governor Corzine recognized that addressing New Jersey's skyrocketing property taxes is still a priority. We are pleased that under this proposal schools will receive additional aid. If distributed equally, this aid will certainly ease some of the burden placed on the shoulders of New Jersey's homeowners by soaring property taxes. However, we encourage Governor Corzine and Legislature to take this opportunity to enact true property tax reform instead of funding yet another property tax relief program."
